Parks & Recreation

With more than 1650 acres of dedicated park land, nearly four miles of accessible shoreline along the Grand and Red Cedar Rivers, and more than 50 neighborhood and school parks, South Lansing has more public green space than any community in the area.  Wherever you are in South Lansing, you’re never more than a half mile from a park.

Our parks and green spaces represent some of the finest recreational destinations in the Greater Lansing area.  Davis Park features ball diamonds, a walking path, and our new Community Farmers Market.  Fine and Fulton Parks have shoreline access and spectacular views of the Grand River.  Frances Park has river access and immense formal gardens.

Moores Park has the oldest continuously operating outdoor pool in America.  Washington Park has the city’s only ice rink.  Hope Soccer Complex is the largest outdoor soccer facility in the area.  Soldan Dog Park is the city’s only off-leash dog run.  Hawk Island County Park offers a huge splash park, a community-built playground, and the only swimming beach in Lansing.

The River Trail, including the new Southeast expansion, connects eleven Southside city and county parks.  The Southwest trail expansion will connect eight more.  In the not so distant future, walkers, bikers, and other non-motorized users will have a 15 mile, mostly off-road, circuit around the south side.

Crego Park, Fenner Nature Center , Evergreen and Mt. Hope Cemeteries, the Sycamore Driving Range,  Scott Woods, and Hawk Island County Park make up more than 750 acres of contiguous park land and wildlife habitat, making it one of the largest urban green spaces in Michigan.

So, what is South Lansing?

We are maple syrup and apple butter, family picnics and farmers markets.
We are summer festivals and concerts in the parks.

We are families biking, couples strolling, and dogs catching Frisbees.
We are school children peering at fish in a pond and old men casting off a pier.

We are football, basketball, soccer, and little league.
We are horseshoes, shuffleboard, volleyball, and tennis.

We run, swim, skate, sled, and cross-country ski,
and we do it all within five minutes from home.

We are South Lansing.
Come out and play with us!
